Money raised goes to everything from drug research to patient support. Here are somethings that have been directly funded by L&L Society:
~$600 trains 50 volunteers who can provide emotional support to newly diagnosed patients
~$1000 provides two patients with Financial Aid to support their treatment and travel to medical appointments for one year
~$7000 funds a program to educate 200 doctors on emerging treatments for a specific blood cancer.
I'm constantly learning new things this group has done, so I'll add them as we go.

Why do you need help fundraising?
True, my goal is only $2900, so why do I need any help getting there? TNT has hit us were it hurts: our competitiveness! They've come with all sorts of incentives to beat our goals. We can get everything from a hat (eh) to a huge rolling suitcase full of TNT stuff (windbreaker, fleece, sweatshirt, hat, among other things)!
***Plus we have weekly rewards for biggest jump in total. I don't know what the prize is but last week it came in a Bloomingdale's bag.
Every bit of help I can get, I appreciate!
Besides, it's not like it's a bad reason to collect money, is it?
I just saw this one the TNT website: In recognition of extraordinary fundraising achievements during its 20th anniversary year, Team In Training has commissioned, from one of the world's most exclusive retailers, original, silver gifts for participants who raise $10,000 or more.

What's training like?
Hard! Well, you asked! Seriously though...We have a training schedule that's designed to get us fit and ready for the race. Each month focuses on something specific: base, endurance building, speed, and race prep.
Right now (March) we're building endurance and technique.
Check out the main page for lovely details of my experience in training.

What is, exactly, a triathlon?
A triathlon is a race made of three even segments, a swim, a bike, and a run.
There are three main distance races:
~Ironman (the original): Swim 3.8 km(2.4 mi); Bike 180 km (112 mi); Run 42.2 km (26.2 mi)
~Olympic: Swim 1.5 km (0.93 mi); Bike 40 km (24.8 mi); Run 10 km (6.2 mi)
~Sprint: Swim 750 m (0.5 mi); Bike 20 km (12.4 mi); Run 5 km (3.1 mi)
I'm doing the Philadelphia Insurance Olympic Distance tri on June 22.

How can we help you raise money?
I'm glad you asked that! I'm doing a lot here in DC to raise money, but the more people who put the word out, the more money the Society has for their cause. A huge amount of money we raise comes people we don't even know!:)
Some ideas:
1. Forward my blog address to people you think would be interested.
2. Take up a collection at church, work, school, or social club You can just wander around and ask people to give you a $1 or 2. Think of how big groups are...that can add up fast!
3. Brag about fabulous you are because you donated, make everyone around you jealous, then hand over the blog address.
4. Got rich friends? Tell them! They LOVE tax write-offs
Get in touch with me about the best way to get collections to me.
For example, say you're Annie: Find the nearest bar showing a play-off basketball game, wait until everyone's had a pitcher or two, flash your big green eyes and ask everyone for $2. Put it all in your account and send me a check! That was easy wasn't it?

How much of my donation goes to real work?
You'll be happy to know that a WHOPPING, yes I said, WHOPPING 75% of everything you give goes directly to research and patient support.
That's $0.75 on the dollar!
(Don't you wish you could pay all your admin costs with only 25% of your income?)

How about the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society?
The Society's main goal is to eradicate all forms of blood cancers. But I think you all knew that?
Here are some things you probably didn't know about them:
(coming soon! Check back in a couple of hours, I gotta go grab dinner)
